La Crosse, Wis. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across western Wisconsin Monday afternoon, with La Crosse and surrounding counties facing a Level 4 out of 5 risk for damaging storms through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the threat begins late Monday afternoon and could extend into the early hours of Tuesday. The greatest hazards include large hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes. Highs on Monday will surge into the upper 60s to upper 70s, fueling instability before the storms arrive.

Cities most at risk include La Crosse, Sparta, Viroqua, and Tomah, especially along I-90 and US-14 corridors. The storms could disrupt the evening commute and pose threats to outdoor activities and utilities. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Today remains sunny and dry, offering a brief window for storm prep before the weather turns volatile. Overnight lows will range from the mid-40s to low 50s.

Storm activity is expected to taper off by early Tuesday, but additional alerts may be issued depending on storm strength and track. Stay weather-aware and check for updates through local emergency channels.
