La Crosse, WI – An Arctic cold front has gripped the La Crosse region today, bringing wind chills as low as -20 degrees. The National Weather Service warns of frostbite risks in under 30 minutes for those with exposed skin. Drivers should remain vigilant for icy road conditions as the cold snap continues to impact local travel.

Temperatures will reach a high of 14 degrees this afternoon under sunny skies, but strong northwest winds of up to 20 mph will make it feel much colder. Tonight, lows are expected to dip to -2 degrees, with calmer winds offering slight relief.

Friday will bring increasing clouds and slightly warmer temperatures, with highs near 23 degrees and lighter winds. However, subzero wind chills will persist during the morning. Saturday and Sunday show a gradual warmup, with highs reaching 28 by Sunday under partly sunny skies. Overnight temperatures through the weekend will remain cold, dropping to single digits.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors during this cold wave. If traveling, ensure vehicles are winter-ready and avoid unnecessary trips.
