Green Bay, WI – Travelers in northeast Wisconsin face hazardous conditions today as freezing drizzle and dense fog create slick roads and low visibility. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., urging drivers to proceed cautiously.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing drizzle has coated roadways in the region, particularly near Green Bay, leading to patches of black ice. Visibility is also reduced due to dense fog. Officials warn drivers to remain alert for sudden changes in conditions, especially on major routes like Interstate 43 and Highway 41. Slowing down and increasing following distances is critical to avoid accidents.
The advisory will expire later this morning as temperatures rise, but rain is forecast to return this afternoon, potentially worsening travel conditions. Rain and patchy fog are expected overnight into Saturday, with accumulations reaching up to a quarter inch. Winds could gust up to 22 mph, making holiday travel more challenging for motorists.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring steady rain early before tapering off by the evening, with highs near 44°F. Sunday offers some relief with mostly sunny skies and a high of 40°F, though overnight lows will dip below freezing. Travelers planning for New Year’s Day should prepare for mixed precipitation, with rain and snow possible early Tuesday.
