La Crosse, WI – Fog hangs low over the Mississippi River this morning, muting headlights and leaving a silvery glaze on bridges and backroads. The calm air feels heavy and cool — the kind of stillness that signals late fall’s quiet turn toward early winter.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, patchy dense fog is developing across portions of western Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota, with visibility occasionally dropping below one-quarter mile. Travelers along I-90 and Highway 14 should drive cautiously through midmorning as the fog gradually lifts. Temperatures hover near 33°F, and slick spots are possible on shaded roads and bridges.

By late morning, sunshine breaks through, pushing highs into the mid-50s with light winds. Friday brings a small 20–30% chance of scattered showers, mainly west of the city, followed by a cool, partly sunny Saturday. Lows dip to the low 30s, with patchy frost expected in rural valleys and open areas.

Sunday looks brighter and drier, setting up a mild finish to the weekend. But forecasters warn the calm may not last long — long-range models point to a colder mid-November pattern, with the first snow potential for parts of Wisconsin between November 10 and 20.

Residents are urged to prepare for colder commutes and start winterizing outdoor gear. For now, it’s a tranquil close to October — but early signs of Wisconsin’s winter transition are quietly taking shape.
