Milwaukee, WI — A freeze warning will take effect across southern Wisconsin tonight, with temperatures dipping into the mid-20s. Residents should prepare for rapidly falling temperatures, especially near Lake Michigan. A combination of chilly winds and overnight showers could result in frost, threatening outdoor plants and sensitive vegetation. The warning, in effect from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Wednesday, is expected to impact both rural and urban areas. Those living along I-94 and the lakeshore should take precautions to protect their plants and gardens.

According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, low temperatures could drop as low as the mid-20s inland and near 30 along the lake. Frost is also likely Wednesday night. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors or cover them with blankets to retain heat. These freezing conditions will last through early Wednesday, before temperatures begin to warm later in the week.

Showers are expected to linger throughout the day, with breezy conditions coming from the north. While isolated waterspouts may form over Lake Michigan, they are not expected to reach the shore. By Thursday, a warming trend will push daytime highs into the 60s, and the weekend may see temperatures soar into the 70s under clear skies.

Residents are encouraged to remain cautious and monitor local forecasts, especially if traveling on roadways like I-94, where wet and slick conditions may persist during the freeze warning. Warmer weather is on the way, but prepare for cold nights ahead.
