Green Bay, Wis. – Drivers across central Wisconsin should avoid water-covered roads this evening as slow-moving thunderstorms dump up to 2 inches of rain, triggering a flood advisory in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, flood advisories remain in effect until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday for southeastern Marathon and northern Portage counties, and until 5:30 p.m. for western Marathon and southeastern Lincoln counties. Radar indicated between 1 and 2 inches of rain had already fallen by late afternoon, with another half inch expected in some areas.

Communities including Marshfield, Weston, Merrill, Mosinee, and Junction City are experiencing minor flooding in poor drainage spots, low-lying intersections, and small creeks. Roads near Council Grounds State Park and the Dewey Marsh Wildlife Area may become impassable if rainfall continues.

The NWS urges residents not to drive through flooded roads, emphasizing that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. If you live in a flood-prone area, move valuables to higher ground and monitor weather alerts closely.

Rain is expected to taper off after sunset, but saturated ground could keep standing water in place for hours. Additional advisories may be issued if storms redevelop.
