LA CROSSE, WI – Voters in La Crosse should prepare for steady rain and possible thunderstorms on Election Day, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions across the region. Rainfall could total between half an inch to one inch, especially across southern Wisconsin, with higher amounts likely on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse.
The NWS warns that periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms may reduce visibility and create slick roads, particularly along major highways like I-90. Rain is expected to intensify by Tuesday afternoon, with a high of around 59°F and gusts up to 26 mph. Those heading to polling stations or commuting should exercise caution, allowing extra time for travel and watching for water accumulation on roads.
Rain will taper off late Tuesday night, with skies clearing by Wednesday when drier weather is expected. Temperatures will drop, with Wednesday reaching a high near 53°F under partly sunny skies, followed by a cool and mostly clear night with lows around 37°F.
The remainder of the week brings a quieter weather pattern for La Crosse. Thursday will be sunny with highs near 56°F, followed by another clear evening. Friday continues the mild trend, staying mostly sunny with temperatures peaking near 57°F.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts closely and be mindful of potential flooding on low-lying roads. NWS advises preparing for longer commutes and securing outdoor items that could shift in strong winds.
