West Salem, WI – Residents in West Salem and surrounding areas should prepare for strong winds and dangerous cold by midweek, with gusts up to 40 mph and subzero wind chills predicted by early Thursday. The National Weather Service advises securing loose objects and dressing in layers to avoid frostbite risks.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, temperatures will warm briefly into the 30s on Wednesday, but strong northwest winds combined with plummeting overnight temperatures will cause wind chills to drop well below zero. A mix of rain and snow is possible Wednesday afternoon, potentially complicating travel along I-90 and other local roads.

Forecast Breakdown:

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, low of 14°F. Winds around 5 mph.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 29°F. Winds becoming southwest up to 11 mph, gusts up to 20 mph.

• Wednesday: Breezy and partly sunny with a chance of rain and snow in the afternoon. High near 37°F. Gusts could hit 36 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Blustery, with a low around 8°F and wind chills as low as -10°F. Winds gusting up to 36 mph.

• Thursday: Sunny but bitterly cold, high of 21°F with gusty winds making it feel much colder.

Residents should limit outdoor exposure, secure lightweight objects, and drive cautiously, especially on bridges and overpasses prone to freezing. With temperatures expected to remain low through the weekend, preparing for prolonged cold is essential.
