Annandale, VA – A midweek storm is set to bring a mix of snow, sleet, and rain to Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C., creating hazardous travel conditions and impacting commutes.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will remain mild through Tuesday before a cold front moves in. Monday will be partly sunny with a high of 61°F, while Tuesday stays mostly sunny with a high of 55°F. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-30s, setting the stage for wintry weather by Wednesday morning.
Early Wednesday, snow and sleet are expected to develop before transitioning to freezing rain by midday. A high of 38°F means roads could become slick, especially in the early hours. By Wednesday night, precipitation will turn to steady rain, with an 80% chance of showers continuing into Thursday. Commuters along I-95, I-66, and the Beltway should prepare for delays and slippery roads.
Thursday remains wet, with rain likely throughout the day and temperatures climbing to 60°F. Rain tapers off overnight, leaving mostly cloudy skies and a low of 40°F. Friday brings a brief break, with partly sunny conditions and a high of 48°F.
Another system may arrive by Saturday, bringing a 50% chance of rain and highs in the mid-40s. Wet conditions could persist into Sunday.
Travelers should stay updated on changing conditions and allow extra time for midweek commutes. Keep an eye on local forecasts for real-time updates and be prepared for slick roads Wednesday morning.
