Chicago, IL – Temperatures are set to drop sharply across Illinois this week, with chances of snow affecting travel by midweek. Residents should prepare for colder-than-average conditions as Thanksgiving approaches.

According to the National Weather Service, a brief reprieve of sunshine on Tuesday will give way to a 40% chance of snow starting Wednesday afternoon. The heaviest snow is anticipated near I-94 and surrounding northern areas. Wednesday evening’s commute may be impacted, especially as temperatures dip below freezing.

Monday will remain mild with highs near 51°F and light drizzle. By Tuesday, the high will barely reach 38°F with gusty northwest winds increasing the chill factor. From Wednesday onward, snow accumulation could create hazardous road conditions. Motorists are urged to monitor updates and plan their Thanksgiving travel early to avoid delays or unsafe conditions.

Thanksgiving Day in Chicago is expected to be partly sunny but cold, with highs around 36°F. Evening temperatures will plummet into the low 20s, making outdoor celebrations brisk. For those traveling on Friday, conditions should improve with sunshine and highs near 30°F.

Looking ahead, the weekend remains cold but mostly dry, with lows in the teens and highs struggling to break freezing. Residents should take precautions to protect exposed pipes and bring pets indoors during nighttime hours.
