Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan residents should prepare for a rain-snow mix expected Wednesday evening, which may create slick roads south of M-59. Temperatures will hover around the low 40s during the day but drop near freezing overnight, heightening the risk of icy conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit, the system trending south will primarily affect areas closer to the Ohio border. Gusty winds reaching 25 mph will make temperatures feel significantly colder, with “feels-like” readings near 30 degrees. Motorists should drive cautiously, especially along the M-59 corridor, where visibility may be reduced.
Thanksgiving Day will see partly sunny skies, with daytime highs in the upper 30s to low 40s, offering a brief reprieve from wintry conditions. However, colder air returns late Thursday, with a chance of light snow developing overnight into Friday. Friday’s forecast calls for scattered lake-effect snow showers and highs only reaching the mid-30s, marking the onset of a much colder weekend.
Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly cloudy, with highs struggling to rise above freezing. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-20s, increasing concerns for icy roads during morning commutes.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter-like conditions by keeping an emergency kit in their vehicles and allowing extra travel time for holiday plans. For the latest weather updates, follow the National Weather Service online or on social media.
