Nashville, TN – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Middle Tennessee beginning early Sunday morning, with freezing rain predicted to create hazardous travel conditions. Ice accumulation is expected to make roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses, slippery, with impacts anticipated through Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville, freezing rain will move into the region Sunday morning and could result in 0.1 to 0.2 inches of ice accumulation. Major roadways like I-40 and local streets in Nashville and surrounding areas are at risk. Residents are urged to monitor conditions and limit travel, especially during the morning hours.
Drivers are advised to prepare vehicles with winter kits, including de-icing tools, blankets, and flashlights, and check road conditions at TDOT’s SmartWay website. Pedestrians should also exercise caution on sidewalks and driveways, as ice buildup could cause falls.
Sunday’s high temperature is forecast to reach 54°F before rain transitions to freezing rain Sunday evening as temperatures drop to 33°F. Showers may continue into Monday morning, with a chance of snow by early Monday.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain chilly throughout the week, with highs in the 30s and lows dipping into the teens by Tuesday night. Monday brings mostly cloudy skies with gusts up to 25 mph. By midweek, expect calmer conditions with partly sunny skies.
