Great Falls, MT – Slushy snowfall is creating hazardous travel conditions across elevated areas of southwestern Montana Saturday morning, with a Winter Weather Advisory remaining in effect until noon.

According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, areas above 6,000 feet in the Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains, as well as northwest Beaverhead County, can expect wet snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches. Impacted locations include Big Hole Pass, Elk Park Pass, Boulder Hill, Homestake Pass, and Chief Joseph Pass.

Road conditions across these passes are expected to vary significantly, with snow-covered, slushy surfaces and reduced visibility making travel potentially dangerous. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive cautiously, especially on high-elevation routes such as Interstate 15 near Boulder and U.S. Route 43 in the Wisdom area.

The Montana Department of Transportation urges travelers to consult 511 or the MDT Road Report website for the latest updates before heading out. Although accumulation is expected to taper off by midday, lingering slick spots may persist into the afternoon as temperatures fluctuate.

This type of late-season snow is not unusual for higher elevations in Montana but still presents challenges for spring travelers. Drivers crossing mountain passes today should plan for delays and take proper precautions.
