Marquette, MI – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several Upper Michigan counties, effective Thursday evening through early Saturday.
Lake effect snow is expected to bring between 2 and 14 inches of accumulation, depending on location. Gogebic County may see the heaviest snowfall in higher terrain, while Alger, Luce, and Northern Schoolcraft counties could experience totals of up to 14 inches. Gusts of up to 45 mph may create blowing snow and reduced visibility.
According to the NWS, the hazardous conditions could disrupt Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Travelers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for sudden changes in weather and road conditions.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday in Gogebic County and 7 a.m. EST Saturday for Alger, Luce, and Northern Schoolcraft counties.
