Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory will bring up to 10 inches of snow to parts of upstate New York by early Saturday.
The advisory covers Western Greene, Western Ulster, and Schoharie counties. According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 4 p.m. Thursday and ends at 1 a.m. Saturday. Snowfall is expected to total 4 to 7 inches in most areas, with locally higher amounts of up to 10 inches above 3,000 feet. Schoharie County is forecasted to receive up to 4 inches, especially in areas over 1,000 feet.
Travelers should expect hazardous driving conditions. Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become icy and slick, especially as temperatures drop Thursday evening. Residents are urged to exercise caution when walking outdoors, as sidewalks and stairs could also become slippery.
The National Weather Service recommends slowing down and driving carefully on untreated roads. Snowfall will likely intensify during evening hours, reducing visibility. Motorists should allow extra time for commutes and avoid unnecessary travel.
Snow is expected to taper off late Friday night into early Saturday morning, improving road conditions gradually.
