Grand Forks, ND – A winter weather advisory remains in effect Friday for portions of Minnesota and North Dakota, with snow and strong winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will last from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., affecting areas in northwest Minnesota and northeast and southeast North Dakota. Forecasters expect up to one inch of snow accumulation, with winds gusting as high as 55 mph. These conditions could lead to reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
The NWS warned of slippery roads, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes. High winds may also damage trees and power lines, posing additional hazards. Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially in areas prone to blowing snow.
Emergency officials recommend checking road conditions by calling 511 or using state transportation apps before venturing out. The advisory spans several counties, including Grand Forks, Traill, and Pembina in North Dakota and Polk, Clay, and Marshall in Minnesota.
