San Antonio, TX – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Texas Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau. The National Weather Service warns of freezing rain beginning late Wednesday through early Friday morning. Forecasters predict minor ice accumulations could impact travel.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), ice is expected to accumulate primarily on bridges, overpasses, trees, and metal surfaces. The advisory forecasts accumulations of up to 1/10 inch in most areas, with isolated spots seeing as much as 1/4 inch. Slick roads could result in minor travel disruptions.
Outside of the Hill Country, a cold front will bring widespread rain across central and southern Texas. Rainfall amounts between 1/2 inch and 2 inches are expected, with heavier rain near the I-35 corridor. Temperatures are expected to remain cold, creating hazardous conditions for those traveling.
The advisory extends from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Friday. Officials urge drivers to proceed cautiously and avoid travel on icy roads. Power outages remain a slight possibility in isolated areas due to ice accumulation on trees and power lines.
Forecasters recommend that residents prepare for potential delays and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. Additional rain will likely extend into Friday morning, impacting rush-hour commutes. Those traveling should monitor local updates for changes in weather conditions.
Residents are advised to stock emergency supplies and check for updates through the National Weather Service or local authorities.
