Minnesota and northeast South Dakota residents should prepare for hazardous travel as a winter weather advisory goes into effect tonight at 9 p.m., lasting until 10 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a light glaze of ice and a dusting of snow across the area.

According to the NWS, untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could become dangerously slippery. Affected cities include Watertown, Sisseton, Milbank, and Ortonville. In southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa, a similar advisory begins at 5 p.m. and extends to noon Saturday. Mixed precipitation could accumulate up to one-tenth of an inch of ice, with snow and sleet up to one inch.

Residents are advised to slow down, use caution while traveling, and prepare for potential power outages. To check current road conditions, visit 511mn.org for Minnesota or call 511 for South Dakota and Iowa updates.

Stay safe and informed as conditions develop.
