Albany, NY – Drivers in parts of eastern New York are being urged to take extra precautions as winter weather continues to impact the region. Wet snow and slippery road conditions are expected to affect commutes Friday morning and beyond, with accumulations varying by area.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. for Eastern Dutchess, Western Dutchess, and Eastern Ulster Counties. Snowfall totals between 1 and 4 inches are anticipated, with higher amounts near the I-84 corridor and at elevations above 500 feet. Wet snow is expected to transition to rain later this morning, but road conditions may remain hazardous during the early hours.

In Schoharie County, the advisory extends until 1 a.m. Saturday. Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are forecasted, primarily in areas above 1,000 feet. Hazardous conditions could affect both morning and evening travel, and the heavy snow may lead to downed trees and power lines.

Residents are advised to slow down, use caution on roads, and prepare for slippery surfaces on sidewalks and driveways. For the latest updates on road conditions, dial 511 for New York State travel information.
