Denver, CO – Heavy snowfall is disrupting travel across Colorado’s mountain regions, with closures reported on Loveland Pass and parts of I-70. Thanksgiving travelers are urged to prepare for delays and challenging driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, 1.5 to 2 feet of snow has fallen above 10,000 feet since Tuesday night, with additional accumulation expected through Wednesday afternoon. Road closures include Loveland and Berthoud Passes, with intermittent closures affecting Vail Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel. Authorities warn that conditions may deteriorate further, and real-time updates are available at COTrip.org.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the region until 2 p.m. Wednesday. Snowfall will continue into the morning, accompanied by winds of up to 30 mph, creating poor visibility and potential whiteout conditions. Travelers should avoid mountain routes unless necessary and equip vehicles with snow tires or chains.

The forecast for the Denver metro area shows snow tapering off by Wednesday afternoon, with Thanksgiving Day expected to bring clear skies and a high near 38 degrees. A warming trend will follow, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s through Saturday. Overnight lows, however, will remain in the teens and low 20s, posing risks for icy roadways.

For those traveling on Thanksgiving, plan ahead and monitor weather updates closely. Check tire pressure, carry emergency supplies, and allow extra time for trips, especially across mountain passes.
