Caribou, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of northern Maine on Wednesday, bringing a mix of snow and freezing rain that could impact travel throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the advisory covers portions of the Central Highlands, Far Eastern Maine, the North Woods, and Penobscot Valley from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST. Areas in Northeast and Northwest Aroostook Counties will remain under advisory conditions from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. EST.

Snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected, with ice accumulations ranging from a light glaze to one-tenth of an inch in some areas. The combination of wintry precipitation is expected to create slippery road conditions, particularly during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Drivers should exercise caution on untreated roads and prepare for reduced visibility. Road conditions across Maine can be monitored through New England 511 at newengland511.org.

Residents are advised to allow extra travel time and use caution when driving on icy surfaces. Those traveling in affected areas should also be prepared for potential delays and hazardous conditions, particularly in northern regions such as Caribou, Presque Isle, and Millinocket.

The wintry mix is expected to taper off by Wednesday night as temperatures fluctuate. Officials urge travelers to stay informed of updates from local weather authorities.
