Duluth, MN – A winter weather advisory is in effect across parts of Northeastern Minnesota through Saturday, followed by a winter storm watch from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Certain areas could see up to a foot of snow, with travel conditions likely to worsen.

The National Weather Service predicts snow and freezing drizzle through midday Saturday, with up to two inches of snow and light ice accumulations. Starting Sunday afternoon, heavier snowfall is expected across the region. Snow totals of 3 to 9 inches are forecast for most areas, with localized amounts reaching up to 12 inches in parts of Cook County, including eastern portions of the Boundary Waters.

Key affected areas include Koochiching, St. Louis, Lake, and Cook Counties, as well as recreation sites such as Voyageurs National Park and the Grand Portage Reservation. Roads in towns like Ely, Two Harbors, and Grand Marais may be particularly hazardous, especially during the Monday morning commute.

The combination of wet, heavy snow and gusty winds could result in power outages, downed tree limbs, and difficult travel. Residents should monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for delays.
