Grand Rapids, MI – A significant winter storm is poised to hit western Michigan, with heavy snow and strong winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening to Thursday evening. Snowfall accumulations of 4 to 12 inches are possible across several counties, including Muskegon, Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Kalamazoo. Winds could also gust up to 35 mph, potentially causing blowing and drifting snow.

The NWS warned that the storm could disrupt Wednesday morning and evening commutes, with travel becoming particularly treacherous as the snow intensifies. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible delays and disruptions.

The affected area stretches across much of southwest and west-central Michigan, including cities like Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo.

Motorists are advised to carry emergency supplies in their vehicles and to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions.
