Cleveland, OH – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, with heavy lake-effect snow expected from late Thursday through Monday morning.
The National Weather Service reports that snowfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour along Interstate 90 in northern Ohio this holiday weekend. The storm is likely to disrupt post-Thanksgiving travel as holiday commuters make their way home. Total accumulations may exceed 8 inches in areas including Ashtabula and Lake counties in Ohio, as well as Crawford and Erie counties in Pennsylvania.
Visibility along I-90 and other major highways could drop to a quarter mile or less in heavy snow bands. Forecasters caution that conditions will vary significantly, with some areas experiencing intense snow while others remain relatively clear. Travelers are urged to delay non-essential trips or prepare winter survival kits, including blankets, water, and tire chains.
The storm’s timing and the placement of snow bands remain uncertain, but hazardous conditions could impact travel on Interstates 90, 86, and 79. Officials recommend monitoring updated forecasts and exercising caution if travel is unavoidable.
