St. Louis, MO – Snow is blanketing central Missouri and west-central Illinois this morning, creating hazardous conditions for drivers. Roadways are expected to become increasingly slick as snow accumulates, reducing visibility and complicating commutes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall began overnight and is expected to continue into Friday morning. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are forecast for portions of southern Illinois and central Missouri. Motorists traveling on major routes such as I-70 and I-64 should exercise caution as conditions deteriorate, with visibility dropping to one mile or less in some areas.
The NWS issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect until 6 p.m. Friday. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips. Freezing temperatures will further heighten the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces.
Looking ahead, snowfall will taper off Friday evening, giving way to partly sunny skies for the weekend. Saturday will see a high near 33°F with calm winds, while Sunday promises sunny skies and temperatures nearing 37°F. The weather is expected to remain stable early next week, with highs ranging from the mid-20s to low-30s.
Residents should monitor local updates and use online resources such as traveler.modot.org or gettingaroundillinois.com to track road conditions. Those venturing out are encouraged to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles.
