Charleston, WV – A powerful winter storm is expected to impact much of West Virginia from Sunday into Monday. Heavy snow, ice, and gusty winds are likely to create dangerous travel conditions statewide.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Watch will go into effect Sunday morning and remain active through Monday evening. Forecasters predict snow accumulations of 6–11 inches across several counties, with ice accumulations reaching up to two-tenths of an inch in some areas. Gusty winds, up to 35 mph, may worsen conditions by reducing visibility and causing potential power outages.

Counties under the alert include Taylor, Barbour, Webster, Randolph, and Nicholas, among others. The most significant impacts are expected during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Residents are urged to limit non-essential travel and keep emergency kits, including food, water, and flashlights, on hand.

State officials advise checking road conditions via 511 services and monitoring weather updates from the NWS. Preparations, including snow shovels, tire chains, and extra clothing, are highly recommended for those who must travel.
