Baltimore, MD – A winter storm is set to blanket parts of Virginia and Maryland with heavy snow on Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to bring 4 to 6 inches of snow to areas such as Shenandoah County, Virginia, and Garrett County, Maryland. The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Higher elevations may see wind gusts reaching 45 mph.

Forecasters warn of hazardous travel conditions throughout the region, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Roads are expected to become slick, creating dangerous conditions for drivers. Officials recommend carrying an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water if travel is unavoidable.

The storm’s impacts could linger into Monday morning for some areas, particularly in higher elevations of Western Maryland and West Virginia. Travelers are urged to monitor updates and check road conditions by dialing 511.

This storm follows a season of below-average snowfall, making this event significant for the region. Residents are advised to prepare for possible delays and power outages as gusty winds may bring down tree branches.
