Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Colorado’s high country and eastern Utah, with snow and strong winds creating hazardous travel conditions through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snowfall is expected above 8,500 feet, with accumulations ranging from 2 to 10 inches across different mountain regions. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph, significantly reducing visibility on mountain passes.

The advisory affects the Elkhead and Park Mountains, Flat Tops, Gore and Elk Mountains, Grand and Battlement Mesas, and the West Elk and Sawatch Mountains. The Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, as well as the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide, are also included in the alert. In Utah, the Eastern Uinta Mountains will experience similar conditions, with 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.

Travelers should anticipate icy and snow-packed roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. Road conditions can be checked by calling 511 for up-to-date information.

The winter storm is forecast to taper off by Tuesday evening, but lingering snow and wind may continue to impact travel in higher elevations. Residents and visitors should plan accordingly and prepare for winter driving conditions.
