St. Lawrence County, NY – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow, ice, and strong winds to Northern and Southwestern St. Lawrence County starting Wednesday evening, making travel hazardous through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the storm will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and last until 7 p.m. Thursday. Snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches are expected, with areas near the St. Lawrence River seeing the heaviest snowfall. Ice accumulation will create additional hazards, and wind gusts up to 40 mph may cause power outages.
Morning and evening commutes on Thursday could be difficult due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. The snow will taper off in the morning, but additional wintry precipitation and strong winds are expected throughout the day.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible power outages. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.
