Cumberland, MD – A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Western Maryland and Eastern West Virginia, where a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to create dangerous travel conditions starting early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the warning will be in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday for Garrett and Extreme Western Allegany counties in Maryland, as well as Western Grant, Western Mineral, and Western Pendleton counties in West Virginia. Snow and sleet accumulations may reach up to 6 inches in some areas, with ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch likely.

The NWS also reported that freezing rain could persist through early Monday morning, potentially causing power outages and treacherous roads. Affected areas in Eastern Tucker County, West Virginia, face similar conditions, with a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 1 a.m. Sunday.

Motorists are urged to delay travel if possible. Those who must drive are advised to pack an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water. Slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses, are expected to significantly impact the Monday morning commute.
