Albany, NY – Snowfall and strong winds are expected to impact much of eastern New York today, with challenging travel conditions forecast, especially on I-87 and surrounding routes. Gusts up to 50 mph and 1-3 inches of additional snow could create hazardous roads.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through tonight. Untreated roadways may become slippery, with blowing snow reducing visibility for drivers during the morning and evening commutes. Winds this strong could down tree limbs, potentially causing power outages. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips.
The hazardous conditions will ease by Friday, with clearing skies and temperatures reaching a high of 28 degrees. However, cold winds will persist, keeping conditions brisk through the weekend. Saturday will see mostly sunny skies, with a high near 34 degrees, while Sunday brings partly cloudy conditions and a high near 40.
Looking ahead to next week, Monday introduces a chance of rain or snow showers, while Tuesday could bring warmer temperatures near 49 degrees but remains cloudy. Travel delays are possible if snow lingers, so plan accordingly for early-week commutes.
Residents should secure outdoor objects and check forecasts before traveling. Stay informed on weather updates via local news outlets or NOAA Weather Radio.
