Jackson, KY – A strong winter storm is sweeping across eastern Kentucky, bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain, and hazardous travel conditions through early Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, effective until 7 a.m. Tuesday, as dangerous weather grips the region.

According to the NWS, snow accumulation of up to an inch and ice buildup around one-tenth of an inch are expected. These conditions could lead to power outages and fallen trees, making travel nearly impossible, especially on rural and untreated roads such as KY-15 and US-421. Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel and prepare for delays if commuting Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will drop sharply on Monday night, with a low near 17°F, creating icy conditions on roadways. On Tuesday, the area will see partly sunny skies with a high of 28°F but frigid wind chills will persist. Light snow flurries are expected late Tuesday into Wednesday morning as temperatures plummet further to 3°F.

Looking ahead, hazardous conditions could return Friday into Saturday as more snow is forecast. Stay updated by monitoring local weather reports and ensuring emergency kits are stocked with essentials. For real-time road conditions, visit GoKY.ky.gov.

Residents should take precautions, check on vulnerable neighbors, and report downed power lines to local authorities.
