Denver, CO – A winter storm warning is in effect across Colorado’s Continental Divide, with snowfall beginning late tonight and intensifying through Wednesday. Snow accumulations of up to two feet are expected in the Sawatch Range and eastern San Juan Mountains, creating hazardous travel conditions along I-70.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will begin this evening and expand eastward by early Tuesday morning. Icy roads and near-zero visibility are likely, especially on high-elevation routes. Travelers are urged to avoid non-essential travel, especially along mountain passes, and prepare for delays.
Temperatures will remain 10 degrees below seasonal averages for most of the plains, with highs reaching only the low 40s. By Tuesday night, heavier snow will extend into eastern Colorado, with a mix of rain and snow possible in the lower valleys.
The five-day forecast calls for a mix of conditions, with the heaviest snowfall on Tuesday night into Wednesday. Thanksgiving Day looks clear but cold, with highs near 39°F in Pueblo and lows dipping into the teens overnight. By Thursday, sunny skies will return, though temperatures will remain below freezing in some areas.
Drivers on I-70 and I-25 should carry emergency kits, including blankets and water, and check road conditions before departing. For updated forecasts and alerts, visit the NWS website.
Be prepared for potential disruptions this week, as the storm could impact holiday travel plans. Plan ahead and stay safe.
