Sacramento, CA – A winter storm will bring heavy snow and dangerous winds to Northern California’s mountains through Monday, causing major travel disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, snow will begin Saturday in the Shasta County Mountains, lasting until Sunday night. The Southern Cascades and Sierra Nevada will see snowfall from Sunday through late Monday. Snow accumulations could reach 12 inches above 4,000 feet in Shasta County, with peaks getting up to 2 feet. In the Northern Sierra and Southern Cascades, 1-2 feet of snow is expected above 5,000 feet, with some areas receiving up to 3 feet.
Wind gusts will be strong, reaching 60 mph in Shasta County and up to 75 mph in the Sierra and Cascades. These conditions will create near-zero visibility, road closures, and hazardous travel.
