Grand Rapids, MI – Residents in Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties are under a winter storm warning this morning as lake-effect snow sweeps through the area. Up to 4 inches of additional accumulation is forecast by 10 a.m., impacting travel and visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is expected to cause rapidly changing road conditions, making the Tuesday morning commute hazardous. Drivers should allow extra time and ensure their vehicles are equipped with an emergency kit, including food, water, and a flashlight.

The snow is expected to ease by late morning, but slippery roads will linger. Temperatures today will hover in the mid-20s, with brisk winds creating wind chills in the teens. Residents are urged to exercise caution on roads like US-31 and I-196, which are prone to slick conditions in lake-effect snow.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts continued wintry weather for Western Michigan. Wednesday will see scattered flurries, with highs near 30°F and lows dipping into the teens. Thursday offers a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies, but another snow system could arrive by Friday evening.

Residents should monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall. Road conditions are expected to improve gradually, but travelers should remain vigilant.
