Grand Junction, CO – Travelers along Colorado’s I-70 corridor are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions as a winter storm moves through the region tonight through Wednesday. Snowfall accumulations of up to two feet are expected in mountainous areas, with difficult to impossible driving conditions forecast.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, the storm will bring prolonged periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, starting late Monday night and intensifying on Tuesday. Mountain passes, including Vail Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel area, are likely to see the heaviest snowfall, causing delays and potential closures. Travel for Thanksgiving could be disrupted as conditions worsen.

The NWS advises motorists to plan alternate routes or delay travel until after the storm clears. Those who must travel should carry emergency kits, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and monitor road conditions via CDOT’s website or app.

Tuesday’s forecast predicts rain transitioning to snow overnight, with daytime highs near 37°F in Grand Junction. By Wednesday, the region will see a mix of snow showers and cloudy skies, with highs near 44°F. Thanksgiving Day promises calmer weather, with sunny skies and a high of 41°F, giving travelers a window for safer travel.

Western Colorado residents are encouraged to check the latest weather alerts and prepare for delays in mountain areas. Spotters are advised to report snowfall totals to the NWS.
