Medford, OR – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snow and strong winds to Southern Oregon and Northern California, with hazardous conditions expected to persist through Wednesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations ranging from 7 inches to 3 feet are forecast for areas above 4,000 feet, particularly in the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain ranges. Near Mt. Shasta City, an extreme snow event could bring up to 3 feet of snowfall. Wind gusts up to 75 mph in exposed areas will exacerbate dangerous travel conditions.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of Jackson, Klamath, and Douglas counties in Oregon, as well as Siskiyou County in California. Key routes, including Interstate 5 and Highways 89, 97, and 138, are expected to see significant impacts.
Authorities are urging residents to delay travel if possible. Those who must drive should prepare for sudden changes in visibility, carry emergency supplies, and ensure vehicles are winterized. Power outages are also likely due to falling tree limbs under the weight of snow.
