Blacksburg, VA – A powerful winter storm is bringing a dangerous combination of snow and ice to parts of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, with impacts expected through 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals could reach up to 4 inches, while ice accumulations may approach four-tenths of an inch. The affected areas include portions of northwest North Carolina, central and southwest Virginia, and southeast West Virginia.

The storm is forecasted to cause significant disruptions, including widespread power outages due to ice-covered power lines and tree limbs. Travel conditions are expected to be treacherous, particularly during Monday’s morning and evening commutes.

Residents are strongly urged to avoid travel and prepare for possible long-lasting outages. Emergency kits containing flashlights, food, and water are recommended if travel is unavoidable. Downed power lines should be reported immediately to utility companies.
