Indiana – A winter storm warning remains in effect for central Indiana, with snowfall and gusty winds impacting travel through today. Areas south of I-70 are expected to see 1 to 3 inches of additional snow, while north of the interstate will receive up to an inch. Strong northeast winds reaching 40 mph will cause significant blowing and drifting snow.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis, the heaviest snowfall will taper off by early afternoon, leaving isolated flurries into the evening. Roads across central Indiana, including major corridors like I-70, are already seeing reduced visibility and icy conditions. Drivers are advised to slow down, keep extra clothing and winter kits in their vehicles, and avoid unnecessary travel.
Temperatures will remain bitterly cold today, with highs near 28°F and wind chills making it feel even colder. Overnight lows will dip to 12°F under partly cloudy skies. The cold snap will persist into Tuesday, which is expected to be sunny but brisk, with highs near 22°F and light winds.
Looking ahead, central Indiana residents can expect a break in precipitation midweek. Wednesday and Thursday will feature clear skies and daytime highs in the low 20s, but temperatures will plummet to single digits overnight. By Friday, snow chances return, with forecasters predicting light accumulations during the afternoon.
Residents should remain vigilant for updates from the NWS and ensure they’re prepared for prolonged cold and potential travel delays. Plan ahead and monitor local conditions.
