Huntsville, AL – Residents in Northern Alabama are urged to prepare as a winter storm is forecast to bring snow and ice starting early Friday morning. Travel conditions will quickly deteriorate across the Tennessee Valley, with 2 to 5 inches of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, snow showers will begin before 9 a.m. Friday, transitioning to rain and snow throughout the day. Freezing temperatures and icy roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses, will create hazardous travel conditions through Friday night. The storm is expected to impact areas along I-65 and across Madison and Limestone counties.

Officials advise residents to delay travel if possible and ensure vehicles are winter-ready with emergency kits, gas, and essentials. Pets should be brought indoors, and outdoor pipes covered to prevent freezing.

Friday’s high is forecast at 35°F, with winds reaching up to 15 mph. By Friday night, temperatures will drop to 29°F, prolonging the risk of icy conditions.

Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will bring mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-to-upper 30s, offering a brief reprieve from severe weather. However, the region remains under a Winter Storm Watch through Friday night.
