St. Louis, MO – A winter storm warning is in effect across Missouri, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain to much of the state. Travel conditions on major routes like Interstate 70 and local roads are expected to remain hazardous through Monday morning, with heavy snow and ice accumulations creating treacherous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will continue producing heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain overnight and into Monday. Total snow and ice accumulations of 4 to 10 inches are expected in parts of the region, with winds gusting up to 35 mph, causing reduced visibility and potentially dangerous travel conditions.

Drivers are urged to avoid nonessential travel as icy roads and snow-covered highways are likely to delay commutes and disrupt travel plans. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit, including flashlights, blankets, and extra food and water. Officials recommend checking road conditions through MODOT’s traveler map before heading out.

Looking ahead, Monday is expected to bring a slight reprieve, with a 20% chance of snow before noon and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain frigid, with highs near 24°F and wind chills making it feel even colder. The remainder of the week will see sunny but bitterly cold conditions, with highs only reaching the low 20s on Wednesday and Thursday.

Missouri residents are encouraged to prepare for continued freezing temperatures, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and remain vigilant about changing weather conditions.
