Great Falls, MT – Heavy snowfall and dangerous winter conditions are forecast to impact parts of central and eastern Montana this weekend, prompting advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service.

According to the NWS, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until late Friday evening for the Northern High Plains and surrounding areas. Snow accumulations up to two inches are expected during this period. However, beginning early Saturday morning, a Winter Storm Warning will take effect, lasting through Sunday morning. Forecasters predict snow totals between 3 to 10 inches across the region, with winds gusting up to 40 mph.

The areas most affected include Eastern Glacier, Toole, and Liberty counties, where visibility may drop significantly due to blowing snow. Mountain passes, including Logan Pass and Marias Pass, could become impassable without tire chains, the agency warned.

Drivers are urged to delay non-essential travel and prepare emergency kits for winter road conditions. Localized blizzard-like conditions are likely on Saturday afternoon and evening, making travel treacherous.

For up-to-date road conditions, residents should call 511 or visit the Montana Department of Transportation’s website.
