Jackson, KY – A winter storm warning is in effect for eastern Kentucky, with heavy snowfall expected through Saturday morning. Residents can expect snow accumulations between 3 to 6 inches, posing significant challenges for travel across the region. The warning began at 7 a.m. Friday and will remain active until 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The heaviest snowfall is anticipated in southern and western areas, where road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly. U.S. Route 421 and other key highways may see hazardous driving conditions, with visibility reduced during peak snow hours Friday evening and Saturday morning. The NWS recommends avoiding unnecessary travel and keeping emergency kits, including flashlights and food, in vehicles.

Saturday morning will see lingering snow showers tapering off by midday, with temperatures hovering around 31°F. By Sunday, conditions will improve, with sunny skies and a high near 40°F. However, icy patches may persist on untreated roads during the early morning hours.

Looking ahead, light snow chances return Monday and Tuesday, with highs ranging from the upper 20s to mid-30s. Residents should monitor weather updates and prepare for changing conditions throughout the weekend.
