Morristown, TN – Light snow accumulations and gusty winds are expected across parts of eastern Tennessee and southwest Virginia through Thursday night, potentially impacting travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, a cold front that moved through Thursday morning is ushering in wrap-around moisture and colder air, leading to snow showers at higher elevations. Light accumulations of up to 1 inch are expected in most areas, while locations above 3,000 feet could see between 2 to 3 inches.

Winds from the northwest will also be gusting up to 35 mph, further reducing visibility and making travel hazardous. Drivers in affected areas, including Mountain City, Big Stone Gap, Wise, Abingdon, and Bristol, should use caution, especially during the evening commute.

Slippery road conditions are likely, particularly on elevated surfaces and mountain passes. Motorists are advised to slow down and allow extra travel time.

For the latest updates on road conditions, travelers can call 511 in their respective states. The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions and will issue further updates as needed.
