Indianapolis, IN – Snowfall and plunging temperatures are set to dominate Central and Southern Indiana starting this afternoon. Residents across Knox, Daviess, and Martin counties should prepare for accumulating snow and slick travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin this afternoon and persist through the evening, with areas south of Sullivan to Bedford expecting 1-3 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. today until 1 a.m. Sunday, covering these counties. Roads along U.S. 41 and surrounding highways may become icy, creating hazardous conditions for drivers. Officials urge residents to travel cautiously and allow extra time to reach destinations.

Beyond the snow, temperatures will plummet statewide tonight, with wind chills dropping to single digits and even below zero in some areas. Indianapolis is forecast to experience a wind chill of -1°F tonight. These frigid conditions will extend into midweek, with daytime highs hovering near freezing and overnight lows in the teens.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers scattered flurries early, followed by clearing skies and a high near 28°F. Calm but cold conditions continue Monday, with sunshine and a high near 29°F. Another round of snow is possible late Tuesday into Wednesday as temperatures gradually climb to the low 40s by midweek.

Residents should dress warmly, use caution on roads, and monitor local forecasts for updates. The extended cold snap may also increase demand on heating systems, so check your home’s heating equipment to ensure it is operating safely.
