Winnipeg, MB – A 24-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night following a twenty-minute police pursuit involving a suspected stolen vehicle in Winnipeg’s west end, according to the Winnipeg Police Service.
Police say the chase began around 11:45 p.m. on November 12, when West District General Patrol and Community Support Unit officers spotted a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado believed to be stolen. With support from Air1, officers attempted to stop the truck in the area of Oakdale Drive and Roblin Boulevard.
According to police, officers deployed multiple tire deflation devices as the Silverado continued to flee, damaging the vehicle’s tires. The suspect reportedly drove onto a residential gravel road in the 2000 block of Wilkes Avenue before entering a farm field, where police boxed in the vehicle and made the arrest.
Officers say they seized a Crosman airsoft pellet rifle, approximately 55 grams of suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials, and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two police vehicles sustained minor damage, but no other injuries were reported.
The 24-year-old man faces charges of Flight while Pursued by a Peace Officer and Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He also received several Highway Traffic Act notices.
He was released on two Undertakings and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
