Albany, NY – A wind advisory is in effect across much of eastern New York and western New England today, with gusts ranging from 35 to 50 mph expected to persist from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The National Weather Service warns that wind gusts could down large tree limbs, leading to possible power outages in areas like the Mohawk and Schoharie Valleys, the Helderbergs, and the northern and central Taconic Mountains.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest gusts are forecast for areas surrounding Albany, with speeds reaching up to 43 mph. Areas such as Poughkeepsie and Saratoga Springs will also experience winds of 38 mph or more. Localized regions, including Caroga Lake and Edinburg, could see gusts up to 41 mph.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and exercise caution on the roadways, especially in regions where gusts could cause sudden, unpredictable conditions. Those in affected areas should also be aware of possible power outages as the winds could impact power lines and trees.
