Springfield, IL – Strong winds are expected across Illinois today, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory. The advisory spans from 10 a.m. to midnight CST.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), northwest winds will range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in some areas. Cities affected include Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign. The NWS warns unsecured objects could become airborne, and tree limbs may fall, potentially causing power outages.

Driving may become hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations and other items to prevent damage.

In neighboring Iowa, areas including Davenport, Iowa City, and Dubuque are also under a Wind Advisory, effective from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Gusts in northwest Illinois could reach 50 mph.

The strong winds may also cause delays for travelers as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. Authorities recommend using extra caution while driving and preparing for possible power disruptions.

Winds will subside after midnight but could leave scattered debris and minor property damage.
