Wilmington, Ohio – A strong spring storm system is eyeing southwest Ohio, with Wilmington bracing for thunderstorms and heavy rain late Thursday into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and storms are expected to begin after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a significant increase in intensity and coverage by Thursday night. By Friday morning, rainfall chances climb to 90% with possible thunderstorms and local downpours that may impact drivers on U.S. Route 68 and surrounding roads.

Winds from the south around 7 mph may pick up slightly during storm activity, but flooding is not yet expected. Still, drivers should prepare for slick roads, limited visibility, and slowed commutes, especially early Friday. Outdoor plans, sports events, or travel through Clinton and Highland counties may be affected.

Wilmington residents are encouraged to charge devices, secure loose outdoor items, and stay weather-aware through the end of the week. The unsettled pattern arrives just after a string of sunny spring days, bringing the first significant rainfall since mid-April.

By Friday night, showers could continue into early Saturday before tapering off. Temperatures will fall from a high near 80°F Thursday to the upper 60s by Saturday. While storms fade by the weekend, scattered showers remain possible through Sunday.
