WILMINGTON, N.C. – Rising evening tides could push water onto Wilmington streets Friday night, creating dangerous travel conditions heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service warns that flooding may make stretches of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road impassable after 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. Up to a half-foot of water is possible in low-lying areas near the Cape Fear River, including parts of downtown. Residents should avoid driving through water and allow extra time for detours if heading out Friday evening.
Flooding concerns ease on Saturday, but patchy fog is possible early in the day. Temperatures will climb near 90 degrees by afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Sunday brings the next major concern. Thunderstorms are expected to develop by midday with heavy downpours that could affect outdoor events, including football games and late-day travel. Storm chances linger into Sunday night with a 50% chance of rain.
Monday turns partly sunny with highs around 80, offering a brief cooldown before more scattered showers return Tuesday and Wednesday. Cooler air continues to settle in midweek, with highs in the low 80s and overnight lows dipping into the mid-60s.
Flood advisories could be reissued during upcoming high tides, especially along the Cape Fear River. Residents should stay alert for changing conditions and plan ahead for delays or closures.
